Congress, AGP-BJP busy in selecting party candidates

HAILAKANDI, July 7: Political activities have been geared up here for the two civic body election. The Congress has decided to field candidates for all the seats of 16 wards in Hailakandi Municipal Board and 10 wards in Lala Town Committee.

Altogether 112 candidates submitted their applications for Congress tickets in 26 seats of both the civic bodies.

In the Hailakandi Municipal Board, 77 aspirants for 16 wards and 35 aspirants for 10 wards in the Lala Town committee are waiting for local Minister Gautom Roy’s arrival for finalising the Congress tickets.

Sources said, outgoing nominated chairman of Hailakandi Municipal Board is planning to contest from ward No 12.

District Congress president A Duttagupta said today that there is great enthusiasm among the people for getting the Congress ticket and it was a good sign for the party and also hoped that both the civic bodies would be formed by the Congress.

According to sources, AGP-BJP alliance party would contest for six seats in Hailakandi and six in Lala. AGP district president Jalanta Sengupta and BJP district president Gofinda Lal Chatterjee told that they would fight unitedly against the Congress.
