Kabindra sought Mamata’s intervention on BG project

NEW DELHI, July 8: Former Union minister and Silchar MP Kabindra Purkayastha today said the Asom Government miserably failed to provide security in North Cachar Hills district in Asom for early construction of the Lumding-Silchar-Jiribum national project. This is despite repeated requests from the Railway Ministry to the State Government for security to construction companies engaged in the gauge conversion project. He said this during the discussion of Railway Budget in the Lok Sabha today. He urged Railway Minister Mamata Benerjee to intervene in the matter personally and take steps so that the project can be executed at the earliest. Purkaystha demanded of Banerjee to accord Badarpur Junction the status of a railway division. He also put pressure on naming the Silchar Railway Station as Bhasha Shahid Station and the Silchar-Agartala Intercity Train as Bhasha Shahid Express. Rail Bhavan sources said Benerjee is likely to announce some more facilities for the people of the Northeast tomorrow on the floor of the House. SOURCE: THE SENTINEL
